Letter to members of the PEI legislature

Dear Member of the legislature,

I am writing on behalf of a world association of Christian Life Community (www.cvx-clc.com) of which we are members here in PEI. We have several other groups based in Charlottetown and two other groups, one in the west and one in the east.

On Wed. May 18th some of our members will begin a walk which will cover the entire Confederation Trail from Tignish to Souris.  Others of us will accompany them for parts or perhaps the entire walk.

Our walk will no doubt allow us to see and experience the beauty of our island but most importantly, it will be in support of and also to promote an awareness of how many islanders are forced to live below the poverty line.  There are two organizations, Poverty Bytes and the McKillop Centre that have been researching the effects of what has become a serious problem in our province. They have provided you with a research paper outlining the reason why we must do something about what we consider to be a crisis. As well, they have suggested sustainable ways of dealing with the eradication of poverty in PEI.

As we meet with people or groups along the way we will offer information on poverty in PEI and ask for their support in its eradication. We will need your help, as well, to achieve this goal. We invite you to join with us, at any time or as we walk through your electoral district as a sign of your support and also your desire to address this important issue.

A daily progress report and expected dates of walking through different districts will appear on a blog. As well you are invited to add your comments to this blog.

Let’s meet on the trail,
Bill Costain
